Motocross Protective Gear

Our Current Favorites

There are many great choices out there for parts and gear. Here is a run down of what we choose to run right now based upon our use of each product listed below.

Helmet: Leatt has a great line of Carbon helmets (7.5 or higher) that are very light and feature Leatt’s patented 360º Turbine Technology, where the energy absorption of the turbines helps reduce the low-speed impact energy to the head and brain. Four densities of impact foam absorbs and disperses collision forces. Large ventilation channels ensure adequate airflow, keeping the rider cool even at low speeds. Also, a hydration side port allows riders to maintain focus and hydration without interruption. Probably the most important safety equipment and something we don’t skimp on when it comes to money as brain protection is so important.

Boots: Gaerne SG22. The Gaerne SG22 has a Dual Stage Pivot System 1.0 that supports the ankle with two limit switches, effectively restricting hyperextension, hyperflexion, and lateral movements. This is very important for me since I broke both ankles in 2017. They also have Air Vents near the Frontal Plate and 3D channels ensure optimal airflow, humidity evacuation, and heat dissipation. They also have aluminum Superlight Buckles which feature multiple adjustments to enable a tailored fit, while the frontal shin guard offers dual positioning options for added versatility. Internally, Memory Foam 1.0 stabilizes the foot, molding to the ankle shape and creating a seamless connection with the boot. So far, I love these boots.

Knee braces: I know, just the idea of wearing knee braces is controversial in the motocross world. However, I recently had a small tip over and banged my right knee very hard on something while I fell to the ground and thankfully I was wearing knee braces because something hit my right knee cap so hard it ripped my riding pants and would have done serious damage to my knee. I was wearing my EVS Web Eclipse Knee Braces. They are expensive but worth the safety in my opinion. Also, they are very comfortable to wear (as long as you put them on correctly). I don’t even notice them while riding they are so lightweight and comfortable.

Neck braces: Again, Leatt. While there are many neck braces on the market, I have found Leatt to be far superior to anything else currently on the market. Their neck braces are designed to properly sit on your chest and back (not on the spine or collarbones) and since they sit on your chest and back instead of the spine and collarbone, they are designed to diffuse the energy into those areas instead of the spine. I personally wear the fusion vest, which combines the neck brace with the back brace and roost protector, which in my opinion is great for protecting the neck and back from serious injury. The reason I wear this is that in 2017 I was riding without any neck or back protection and fractured my mid spine in 6 different vertebrae. That incident scared me so bad that I now wear all the protection I can to prevent such serious injuries (my children also wear Leatt neck braces and back and roost protectors).
